Unfinished Tales 1 is a bibliophile’s edition combining a book and an art album in one. The book traces the author’s lifelong project of creating fantasy notes – particularly its early stages. Through it, the creator of the concept – Matej Gábriš – allows the reader a look into his personal memories and inspirations from his early youth. Each banknote is linked to a story: a historical context based on diaries, a personal memory, and its significance for the future direction of Matej’s work.

The publication is designed as a collector’s item – a limited edition of 200 copies, each containing 25 ‘Gabrisnotes’ bearing the same number as the book. The Gabrisnotes were created on the basis of original sketches, notes and preserved files from the time Matej began reviewing his diaries after relocation, that is, over the last three years as a personal project. The book functions as an artefact in its own right – it documents ‘unfinished’ designs and showcases their current, masterfully finished form.
